This week I helped out in the surgery check in area. I helped highlight forms and I got to kitten sit for a while. One of our new fosters is a cute little dog named coco so I also met her.
I don't think colleges should make it mandatory to have an internship before you graduate. I think you it should be heavily suggested you do one but if someone works and can't fit a non paying job, basically, into their schedule they shouldn't have to. I can see where you would want experience in the field you want to go into but I'd rather be a volunteer or just have an actual job I get paid for.I know I'm important for the people at All About Animals, which is why I'm going to try and keep volunteering even after this class is over. I've been told by a few people that they enjoy my help especially when they get busy. *******My phone hasn't been letting me upload pictures from it to the computer for whatever reason so I can come in tomorrow or Wednesday and show them to you if you want.******

This week I helped in the spay and neuter clinic. I didn't go for that long on Wednesday because I had work at 4 and some other stuff going on but that's why I stayed so long on Friday. I helped highlight forms. I also helped run dogs and help with shipments.
This week I read the article about time management. At my volunteer place they care and don't care that I'm late. I generally try to get there between 1 and 1:30 depending on the day. At my other works though it really is important that I show up on time, otherwise I don't get paid as much. At Yankee I have a bank of hours that apply to if I'm late or can't make it to something mandatory. At G Willies it's a little more flexible because sometimes I'll get called in early. Or just be on call in general and basically be ready whenever. This week I helped mostly in the spay and neuter check in area. I help with shipment and regular office stuff, like copying or highlighting forms. The picture is my letter of appreciation, I will turn it in Wednesday. Although the lady I work with in the check in area thanked me the other day for helping her out with shipments and stuff. So I'm glad I'm helping out a little.
This week I helped out a lot around the office. Wednesday I helped open a shipment and put it in the back room. I also got to run dogs that night. Friday I helped in the check in for surgery clinic, I also got to help with shipments again. This week I also met lots of cool cats. The photos are of me holding another foster kitten, this one was only 3 weeks old, and of smoosh the office cat.
I haven't received my evaluation yet, so I can't really do the journal entry. I think I did good though, everybody seems to like me. This week I helped in both clinics. I helped in the walk in clinic by hilighting paperwork. I also helped in the check in clinic by opening new shipments and finding out where they go. One of the delivery guys even gave us a bag of candy. I also got to cat sit for one of the workers foster kittens. His name is Todd and is only 5 weeks old.
This week I read the article on 12 things you have to give up to be happy. I think the thing that resonated with me the most was the "choosing to do nothing" bullet point. I feel like I do this a lot but I also feel I need to do this. Both my jobs are pretty high stress, I'm a waitress and I work in retail. So I really love my days off. Even if it just means lazing around the house with my cats. The photos are of with me with the kitten and an arduous task, making dog cones. Last weeks entry: This week I helped out in the walk-in wellness clinic. It all depends on the day on how busy we are. This week we were pretty busy. Lots of people brought in stray kittens, I'm surprised because kitten season is generally in the spring but maybe the kittens are looking for warmth and end up in peoples garages and sheds and subsequently their homes. I mostly helped file and highlight papers. I've been learning a lot more about the processes here and am able to help out people with simple questions. This week I read Forbes 15 ideal traits for an employee. I think the most important trait is ambition. At both my jobs their are duties that aren't super specified on who does them. At Yankee Candle it's trash runs and at G. Willies it's glasses. I always try and do these tasks before someone asks because I know my bosses appreciate it. Especially at Yankee Candle when we get deliveries in. ****I'm writing this 1st hour Friday 10/14/16 so I will try and upload a photo later but I might not be able to till tomorrow because of work. Also what dates are my time sheets, I know i messed up the first one, so is it this week and last week? This week I helped open needles on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday I helped make copies for the surgery clinic. On Thursday, the walk-in clinic was busy so I helped file papers the whole time.
This week I read the moral bucket list. It was an interesting read but not anything I didn't really already know. I believe in Karma and reincarnation, which is the basic belief that you get "reborn" after you die. Including with this, I believe that actions you do know affect you later, if you're mean now, bad luck will follow. As a result I've tried to be a better person, we all have our slip ups but it's nothing you can't "undo". I think the author is basically trying to get people to be nicer to one another. We are always too concerned with ourselves, but what's stopping you from helping that elderly women take the groceries to her car? Or helping someone out who needs some food? It's not super difficult to be a decent person, especially when it affects your future. This week I helped the walk in clinic, which isn't always walk in everyday, I have learned. I helped them file stuff for a couple reasons. One, I'm not usually working in that part of the center but when I am I noticed their filing system was off, some drawers didn't have any labeling and others the labeling was off, so I fixed those. I also found two people with the same name but different animals and addresses so I put on their file what type of dog they had, one had a boy and the other a girl. I also found a repeat file. I really like helping out because I understand they can't always get to small work like that, so I know when I'm not there at least things are easier for them. This week I watched Audri's Rube Goldberg machine video. At my volunteering job there isn't a lot that's very difficult. It's usually pretty simple tasks. However in my real job I'm a waitress and one thing I find difficult are food trays. They're very large and obviously very heavy with food on them. One girl even told me that when she carried a pizza once, she hit a wall with the spatula we put under the pizza to serve it, made the pizza slice fly and hit the wall. The only way to get better is to use them, so even if I get a table that only orders two things, I put it on a tray just to practice. Last night, Thursday, 9/29/16, was the first night I had multiple tables and I loved it. I made $27 which I freaked out over, our bartender and my trainer Blanca, thought it was kind of silly because some girls make $200 on a Thursday, but I was excited for a little bit of cash. ******side not, I'm doing this Friday 9/30/16 morning and probably won't be able to upload my time sheet tomorrow, Saturday 10/01/16, morning because of work
This week I helped the clinic prepare for their vet clinic for the Warren low cost vet clinic, on Saturday. I helped open packages of syringes and make cones. I also helped put files in order for the transport vans. The transport vans carry the animals here, if their owner can't. I've seen lots of cute dogs this week. I really enjoy working there.
http://bethetigger.edublogs.org/career-field-experience/1x-cfe-blog-entries/ Putting this here because I wasn't told I had to have any of this on my journal entries. I really liked working at All About Animals this week. On my first day, Wednesday the 14th, I helped out in the surgery center. I mostly just highlighted paperwork, but I also got to make cones for the dogs. I also got to see the dogs and help clean out the cages. On my second day I helped out in the wellness center. That day I got to file paperwork and highlight. I couldn't stay as long on my second day because I had a job interview. It was still very fun though. A common interview question I struggle with is "What's your biggest weakness?" because, I don't know how to answer it. I usually try and tailor my answer to the job I'm applying for. However, math is my basic answer.
